Mar 2021AP Racing to supply braking to new FIA RX2e Championship
AP Racing has been chosen to supply front and rear braking to the FIA RX2e Championship, which is due to kick off later in 2021.
The UK-based racing specialist will be providing an industry-leading brake package comprising front and rear calipers, brake discs, pedal box, balance bar adjuster and master cylinders to all competing RX2e cars. The innovative cars have been developed by QEV Technologies, a Spanish electro-mobility specialist, and Swedish rallycross operation Olsbergs MSE.
The FIA RX2e Championship will support the established petrol-powered RX Supercars in 2021, ahead of the planned introduction of fully-electric Supercars in the FIA World Rallycross Championship the following year.
Pere Gonzalez, Project Manager for the FIA RX2e Championship, said: “We’ve worked hard over the last few months to develop a car that not only looks fantastic, but also provides drivers with an exhilarating experience. Part of that challenge is selecting a braking partner that can work within a team to create something special. With AP Racing, we’ve certainly found that.
“A huge part of our work has been ‘under the skin’ to make sure we get all the fundamentals right, to provide competitors with the most cutting-edge technology available and ensure the driving experience is as engaging and enjoyable as it can possibly be.”
The lightweight, four wheel-drive RX2e electric rallycross car is built around a spaceframe chassis and incorporates two independent powertrains alongside a 30kWh battery. With the motor generating 250kW (335bhp) of power and up to 510Nm torque, effective braking is a key consideration.
David Hamblin, managing director at AP Racing, commented: “The new FIA RX2e Championship is another milestone in European motorsport’s shift from fossil fuels to EV-powered racing. We’re very much at the heart of this transition and continue to adapt and refine our braking technology to meet the demands of this exciting new era.”
Six race weekends are planned for the inaugural season in 2021, running alongside FIA World RX. The campaign is due to begin at Belgium’s legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit on 22/23 May.
