AP Racing partners with Lotus to launch Theory 1 concept vehicle

AP Racing, the world-renowned brake and clutch supplier, has partnered with British automotive manufacturer Lotus to launch its Theory 1 concept vehicle. Showcasing the latest developments in groundbreaking automotive technology, the project offers an innovative glimpse into the future.

Theory 1 will feature 6-piston Radi-CAL™ calipers from AP Racing. Harnessing a pioneering asymmetric design and fixed bridge concept, each beautifully crafted caliper is made from of a single monobloc aluminium alloy body and fitted with stainless steel pistons to offer unmatched braking power and control.

To complement the calipers, AP Racing will also supply hand-crafted Ø390x34mm carbon ceramic material (CCMR) brake discs. Designed from the ground-up to deliver world-leading performance in race applications, the carbon ceramic discs are lighter and deliver better braking performance than any other product on the market.

The collaboration stems from a long-standing relationship between Lotus and AP Racing. It goes all the way back to the 1967 Lotus 49 and AP Racing today provides the brake systems in Lotus’ current product line up, including Evija, Eletre and Emeya.

Bringing the company on board as a trusted partner for the Theory 1 project highlights its confidence in AP Racing’s ability to consistently deliver advanced braking solutions that exceed the evolving needs of the industry.

David Hamblin, managing director of AP Racing, commented: “Our talented team is renowned the world over for developing countless championship-winning braking systems that far outperform the competition. When it came to identifying a partner for its iconic new Theory 1 concept, Lotus knew that we could deliver the best possible solution.

“We have a long-standing relationship with the team at Lotus and helped to co-create an iconic match of calipers and discs to demonstrate the future of automotive progress. We’re looking forward to seeing the concept vehicle showcased as the pinnacle of technological capability.”

Ben Payne, Vice President of Design at Lotus Group, added: “With Theory 1, we’ve built on everything Lotus has achieved so far in its 76-year history, to push the boundaries for what it means to drive a performance vehicle. We want to demonstrate that you don’t need to compromise – with both digital and analogue capabilities working harmoniously in the future car. Key to any performance vehicle are the advanced braking systems and it’s been a privilege to work with our long-term partners AP Racing to implement these next-generation components.”
