Mar 2014Australian Grand Prix Success
There was a great deal of uncertainty leading into the first race of the 2014 F1 season. Marking a new era of Grand Prix racing, the drastic overhaul of the sport’s technical regulations meant that no one was certain how many cars would go the distance, let alone who would take the chequered flag to win. The issues many teams encountered during the pre-season testing could well have continued into the race weekend.
As ever AP Racing was in the middle of the action, and although the new regulations don’t directly affect the products that we supply the teams, our engineers had to ensure that they integrated with the range of new technologies and easily as possible.
From our carbon/carbon clutches, which have to handle the high power and torque of the new hybrid powertrain, to the braking systems, which have to co-exist with the complicated Energy Recovery System, we worked with our clients to deliver bespoke components.
Taking into account the result, this year’s season looks like it will generate some surprises, but AP Racing is already looking ahead to the next race, at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia on March 30.
We’ll be looking to continue the success of the Melbourne race as, AP Racing supplied all the top ten finishers with carbon/carbon clutches and three of the top ten finishers with brake calipers.
There’s a long way to go until the season close in Abu Dhabi, but it’s going to be a fascinating year.
