Dec 2019NEW BRAKE AND CLUTCH TECHNOLOGIES TO BE SHOWCASED AT AUTOSPORT 2020
Autosport Engineering Show Press Release
Visitors to stand E530 at Autosport 2020 will be among the first to witness the latest developments in brake and clutch technologies, exhibited by AP Racing. The world-renowned performance brake and clutch system manufacturer will showcase its new GT3 calipers alongside other new innovations during the show at the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham, from 9-12 January 2020.
Weighing just 3kg, the company’s brand new forged GT3 front and rear calipers boast a fixed, rather than a bolted bridge. This is in response to current GT race regulations with minimum pit stop times for endurance races, meaning teams often opt to change the whole braking package at a stop. Pad loading has also been enhanced for more even pressure distribution. The package envelopes are identical to previous versions, ensuring no modifications are required to vehicle uprights or wheels. The calipers have been designed using near-net handed forgings, reducing cycle times and creating pocketing around the piston housing with slots for further weight reduction and cooling.
AP Racing’s new concentric band lightweight clutch will also be displayed. The highly innovative technology is designed with a cover mass below 400g giving a total weight reduction of 12 per cent and stiffness increases of up to 50 per cent compared with current I-Drive assemblies. It is interchangeable with all current AP Racing I-Drive assemblies and uses a ø182 high-temperature diaphragm spring.
Visitors to the stand will also see AP Racing’s World Mono R road monobloc calipers that are manufactured using the same patented design philosophy as the company’s hugely successful World Radi-CALTM R range. Offering enhanced rigidity and cooling characteristics, the technology is able to suit multiple platforms and applications. The range incorporates all characteristics demanded by the road market including dirt seals, an attractive finish and noise abatement features.
A newly developed sliding modular pedal box, suitable under new FIA regulations and offering significant improvements over previous designs, will also be exhibited.
Attendees can also see AP Racing’s impressive clutch and braking range for Formula 1, used by eight teams in 2019. Its NASCAR braking product line-up, and bespoke calipers designed and manufactured for the Bugatti Chiron, that demonstrates the company’s prowess in high-specification OEM roadcar systems, will also be on display.
AP Racing managing director David Hamblin commented: “The Autosport show always attracts the very best of motorsport industry, from decision-makers and influencers, to competitors and fans. This is what makes it the ideal opportunity to share our new technologies the engineering team have been working hard to develop. For over 50 years now, our aim has always been to harness innovation that delivers optimised performance, and this is shown through our new products that do just that.”
